At the time of its release, the single "Free Nelson Mandela" demanded the release of anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela from jail in South Africa. The Specials' Jerry Dammers penned the protest song. Elvis Costello produced the track. Mandela was finally released 6 years later.
