CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#453 DON'T TOUCH ME THERE The Tubes
The Tubes formed in San Francisco in 1972. Lead singer Fee Waybill had previously been the band's roadie. They broke through with the single "Don't Touch Me There" in 1976. The track was lifted off their 2nd LP, 'Young and Rich'. The song is a duet of sorts between Waybill and Re Styles. Credited to Ron Nagle and Jane Dorknocker, the track is a tribute / parody of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound arranged by Jack Nitzsche. Ken Scott produced the recording. It sounds like a song that would have fit in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" or a track Jim Steinman would have written. The single only reached #61 in America, but climbed to #26 on the Australian chart.
In 1980, The Tubes made an appearance in the film 'Xanadu'. The group enjoyed greater chart success Stateside in the '80s, peaking at #35 with "Don't Want To Wait Anymore" in 1981 and "She's A Beauty" going Top 10 in 1983. The band split 3 years later. Keyboardist Vince Welnick joined The Grateful Dead in 1990. After years of battling with depression, he committed suicide in 2006. The Tubes reunited in 1993. They have since recorded new material, their most recent album release being a live disc in 2005.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
