#505 CRYING AT THE DISCOTHEQUE Alcazar
Alcazar made a big splash with their upbeat funky Swepop hit "Crying at the Discotheque". The song is basically a reworking of Shiela B. Devotion's "Spacer" which was written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers (from Chic). That disco song was sampled throughout Alcazar's 1st hit. The other songwriting credits included Alexander Bard, Anders Hansson, Anders Wollbeck and Michael Goulos. Bard and Hansson co-produced the track with Johan S. in Stockholm.
The Swedish trio included the song on debut album 'Casino'. The single made the charts in 2001, peaking at #29 in their homeland. It reached the Top 20 in many other European countries, the UK and Australia.
Around 2005, Alcazar went on hiatus, only to return 2 years later. Their most recent album was "Disco Defenders" in 2009. While the group's status was unclear for a time after that release, the group is now officially active. In 2014, Alcazar will compete in the Swedish Melodifestivalen, hoping to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest in May with their entry "Blame it on the Disco".

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
