CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#452 LOVE SHACK The B-52s
The B-52s formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia. The US band took its name from the bouffant hairstyles adorned by its 2 female members: Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson. The other members included the latter's brother Ricky on guitar, lead singer Fred Schneider and drummer Keith Strickland. The B-52s broke through in 1979-80 with the single "Rock Lobster". The song peaked at #3 in Australia. Subsequent releases included the chart hits "Planet Claire" and "Private Idaho". The group tasted global success finally in 1989 upon the release of a hit song from their 'Cosmic Thing' album.
"Love Shack" was penned by the group's members. Don Was of the band Was (Not Was) produced the track. Pierson, Wilson and Schneider all share vocal duties. It also features the Uptown Horns. By this time, the group was a 4-piece, following the death of Ricky Wilson from AIDS in 1985. The hit song reached #1 in Australia and New Zealand in late 1989. On the US Hot 100, it peaked at #3 and 2 in the UK. The group still records and performs to this day.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
