Sam Cooke
Sam Cooke was already renowned on the gospel circuit before he switched to secular material. His good looks and that heavenly voice made him a star while he toured the US. as part of the vocal group The Soul Stirrers. “You Send Me” not only saw Cooke explore new musical ground, but the vocalist soon established himself as the most influential soul singer. His vocal skills inspired countless others, including: Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Otis Redding, Rod Stewart, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and Babyface. He was ahead of his time in his community for his business acumen too. The singer / songwriter set up his own record label and publishing company.
