Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Even in its infancy, Buddy Holly was a significant influence on rock ‘n’ roll. Despite the brevity of his career, few musicians achieve the timeless impact of his artistry. Holly co/ wrote several early rock standards, including “Peggy Sue”, “Everyday”, “Oh Boy” and “It’s So Easy”. Holly & The Crickets became the archetypal rock outfit, influencing countless others (The Beatles among them). “That’ll Be The Day” was the group’s biggest hit. Inspired by a line expressed by John Wayne in the western ‘The Searchers’, Holly first recorded a version in 1956 with an earlier group in Nashville. His re-recording cut with his new band The Crickets shot up the charts. We will never know what more the young rocker from Lubbock, Texas would have accomplished had he not tragically lost his life in a plane crash just 2 years after recording this hit single.
