SONGS FROM THE WEST COAST {2001}
Patrick Leonard produced the album, with Elton’s vocals recorded at The Townhouse in London. Lead single “I Want Love” reached the UK Top 10. All of the album’s tracks were written by Elton with Bernie Taupin. The project was dedicated to Matthew Shepard and guitarist Davey Johnstone’s late son Oliver.
84 American Triangle
The murder of gay teenager Matthew Shepard is the subject of this moving track. Rufus Wainwright contributed harmony vocals.
85 Original Sin
Paul Buckmaster arranged and conducted the strings on this ballad which was lifted later as a single.
86 Ballad Of The Boy In The Red Shoes
This touching song deals with A.I.D.S. It is another track where Paul Buckmaster arranged and conducted strings. Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsson, from Elton’s backing band, are featured on the cut.
87 Love Her Like Me
This track features Elton on piano, Patrick Leonard on Mellotron and Billy Preston on B3.
