100 SONGS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
1955
💥3 Rock Around The Clock
Bill Haley & His Comets
When this watershed single reached #1 in various countries, it announced that rock ‘n’ roll had arrived. The genre was now starting to be embraced by the mainstream. Although the single had been issued prior, its inclusion in the film ‘The Blackboard Jungle’ sparked a reaction never witnessed before. Teens suddenly were a force: as music lovers and as a cashed up new generation of consumers in the post-war West. These youths did not seem to mind that Haley, who was almost old enough to be their parent, had scored a hit with a remake. The original version of “Rock Around The Clock” was released by Sonny Dae & His Knights the year before.
1954- That’s All Right Mama
1951- Rocket 88
