ALL THE WINNING COUNTRIES
A look back at every country that has won the Eurovision Song Contest in chronological order.
1958
FRANCE
Hilversum became the first Dutch host city in 1958 where France won the Contest for the first time with “Dors, mon amour”, performed by André Claveau. Not only is France one of the founding members of Eurovision, but it is one of the so called “Big 5” countries. This means that it is one of only 5 nations that are not required to qualify, but go directly into the Grand Final every year.
In 1959, Eurovision was held in Cannes. The Netherlands won. In 1960, France scored a second ESC triumph with “Tom Pillibi”, performed by Jacqueline Boyer.
France continued dominating the ESC, becoming the first nation to accomplish a third victory in 1962, with Isabelle Aubret’s entry “Un premier amour”.
In 1969, France was one of the winners in the 4-way tie. Its
entry was “Un jour, un enfant” as performed by Frida Boccara. To date, France's last Eurovision win was in 1977 with Marie Myriam's "L'oiseau et l'enfant".
