What You Need To Know About:
EUROVISION
2022
As if a pandemic wasn’t enough to plan around, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine looms large as Eurovision time approaches. At present, the Contest is scheduled to begin with Semi-Final 1 on May 10. For now, Ukraine is competing and is a strong favourite to win, but it will need to qualify for the Grand Final.
How do countries qualify for the Grand Final?
The winning country is automatically given a place in the Grand Final. In 2021, the Italian entry "Zitti E Buoni" claimed victory. As one of the ‘Big 5’ nations, Italy annually pre-qualifies anyway, an advantage that country shares with France, Spain, United Kingdom and Germany. Along with these 5 countries, the 10 highest-scoring entries from each of the 2 Semi-Finals will make up the total of 25 Grand Finalists.
Semi-Final will see these 17 compete for a spot in the Grand Final: Albania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands,Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Armenia, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Norway and Portugal.
On May 12, Semi-Final 2 will feature the following 18 participants: Australia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Finland, Georgia , Israel, Malta, San Marino, Serbia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ireland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Sweden.
