ALL THE WINNING COUNTRIES
A look back at every country that has won the Eurovision Song Contest in chronological order.
1968
SPAIN
Spain had its ESC debut in 1961. The first song sung in Spanish to claim first place in the Eurovision Song Contest was the infamous “La, La, La”. The 1968 entry is remembered for the many “las” in its lyrics. The song was performed by Massiel.
The following year, Spain emerged victorious again with “Vivi Cantando”. Salomé performed the catchy song that was involved in a 4-way tie shared with France, United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Spain has continued competing since that last victory in 1969. As one of the “Big 5” countries, each Spanish entry automatically qualifies for the Grand Final every year.
