THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: The 40 Songs Ranked.  #20-16.

EUROVISION 2022

THE 40 SONGS

(in order of preference)

The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has decreased to 40 with the banning of Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine. This year, the 2022 ESC will be held in host city Turin, Italy in May. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song. This post’s entries are a little better, but far from memorable Eurovision entries.

*Note that a live performance and the on-stage presentation may alter the overall impact of a song.

40- SERBIA; 39- BULGARIA; 38- LATVIA; 37 – GERMANY; 36- ALBANIA;

35- NORTH MACEDONIA; 34- IRELAND; 33- UKRAINE; 32- SPAIN; 31- SWITZERLAND

30- FINLAND; 29- MALTA; 28- CROATIA; 27- CYPRUS; 26- CZECH REPUBLIC

25- ISRAEL; 24- ARMENIA; 23- MONTENEGRO; 22- AUSTRIA; 21- LITHUANIA

MISS YOU

Jérémie Makiese

Belgium

Belgium will face tough opposition if it is to qualify from Semi-Final 2 to the Grand Final. The Belgian entry is sung competently in English but is likely to be overshadowed by stronger songs in its heat.

The official cover for "Die Together"

DIE TOGETHER

Amanda Tenfjord

Greece

While the Greek entry is interesting and different from many past songs that have represented Greece, this is not a memorable one. With its English lyrics, this should progress to the Grand Final with ease from Semi-Final 1 to the big night.

#18

The official cover for "De diepte"

DE DIEPTE

S10

The Netherlands

The Dutch entry will be performed by Stien den Hollander, who performs under the moniker S10. She will be singing the song in Dutch in Semi-Final 1. It’s a classy song, in the way that “Arcade” was. As one of the stronger competitors in its heat, this should easily make it through to the Grand Final. The song title means "depth" in Dutch.

NOT THE SAME

Australia

Australia’s finalists in its national selection left a lot to be desired. It may attract votes from viewers that have not heard it before Semi-Final 2. While the song has a powerful message, it is a typical Eurovision song and this may alienate those expecting something better and more adventurous from Australia.

#16

The official cover for "Saudade, saudade"

SAUDADE, SAUDADE

Maro

Portugal

Portugal has selected one of its better songs for the ESC in 2022. It is one of the superior quality entries that will participate in Semi-Final 1. The song will be performed in Portuguese and English. Its title means "missing, missing".
