ESC Winning Countries:
25) RUSSIA
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
ALL THE WINNING COUNTRIES
A look back at every country that has won the Eurovision Song Contest in chronological order.
2008
RUSSIA
The 22nd century had seen a new country claim victory at the Eurovision Song Contest for 8 consecutive years. Preceded by Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece, Finland and Serbia, Russia accomplished its first win.
The nation made its debut at the ESC in 1994. Soviet bloc voting has been an advantage for Russian entries, bringing it numerous Top 5 finishes. In 2008, Dima Bilan performed “Believe”. The song, sung in English, gave Russia its one – and (so far)- only ESC victory.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 resulted in the country being banned from the Contest. Its war crimes during the current conflict may hamper Russia’s chances of returning to Eurovision.
