THE 40 SONGS

The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has decreased to 40 with the banning of Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine. This year, the 2022 ESC will be held in host city Turin, Italy in May. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song. This post’s entries are grouped together as the ‘Why bother?’ songs; i.e. they are below par.

Serbia

The Serbian entry has lyrics in Serbian and Latin. It contains a message that may be lost to the English-speaking viewers. The song will face strong competition in Semi-Final 2.Its title translates as "in a healthy body".

Bulgaria

Recent entries from Bulgaria have been strong contenders. This year’s song is a rock song by numbers, that lacks originality. Being in Semi-Final 1 may give it some advantage as this heat has more weak songs. The song will be performed in English.

Latvia

Starting off with the lyrics: “instead of meat, I eat vegies and pussy”, the song tries to be clever with its green message. While its cause is worthy, this year’s Latvian entry, sung in English, is one of the weakest competing in Semi-Final 1.

Germany 

Germany is lucky to automatically pre-qualify for the Grand Final, because this year it will be represented by one of its most unimaginative entries. The song, co-written by the singer and to be performed in English, may receive 'nil points' on the big night.

Albania  

Performed in Albanian and English, this will be the first song performed during the 2022 Contest. It may manage to scrape into the Grand Final, due to there being so many poor quality songs in Semi-Final 1. Depending on how it is presented on the night, this entry may improve its chances.
