1989
YUGOSLAVIA
To date, Yugoslavia remains the only country that no longer exists to claim victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. The nation first competed in 1961. Croatian group Riva triumphed in 1989 with “Rock Me”.
The Yugoslavian victory brought Eurovision to Zagreb as host city the following year. In 1992, the country competed for the last time. Over the ensuing years, Yugoslavia began to split. New nations emerged.
Many former Yugoslavian territories have since competed at Eurovision in their own right, including: Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia- Herzegovina. One of these has achieved a victory.
