3 HOT STUFF In the hands of some artists, disco may have seemed formulaic. This was never the case with Donna. With the ground-breaking “Hot Stuff”, this was especially true. At the time, rock acts such as The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart had scored hits with a disco beat. Pete Bellotte, Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey approached Donna’s next hit from the opposite context. “Hot Stuff” had an unmistakable pounding dance beat, but it was injected with a mighty dose of rock music. At the time, Bellotte was a fan of Jeff “Skunk” Baxter from The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. The guitarist performed the climactic guitar solo on the track. “Hot Stuff” was the lead single from the 1979 album ‘Bad Girls’. The disc reached #1 in America, Canada and Australia. Donna was awarded the first Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy for the hit. |
