5 NO MORE TEARS (ENOUGH IS ENOUGH) with Barbra Streisand Paul Jabara had already co/written disco hits for both Donna Summer (“Last Dance”) and Barbra Streisand (“The Main Event/ Fight”) before the idea emerged to team the two music titans together. Bruce Roberts had co-written the latter with Jabara. The two set out to compose a new disco duet. Eventually, the song was built around the “enough is enough” chorus. Barbra Streisand was in the process of recording her ‘Wet’ album with songs to fit around the water theme. The concept was re-tweaked to incorporate the slower intro to the track which emphasized the ‘wet’ lyrical context. Combining the two song segments, the song was presented to the two singers who promptly cut the duet. Luther Vandross was later recruited to add some finishing touches to the recording. The full version of “No Morte Tears (Enough Is Enough)” ran for just under 12 minutes. An edit was issued as a single in late 1979 and became Donna’s fourth US #1 (and Streisand's third). The disc also made the Top 10 in Britain, Europe, Canada and Australia. |
