CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#584 NATURE BOY Kate Ceberano
Many singers have recorded a version of the standard "Nature Boy". The most famous arguably belongs to Nat "King" Cole and was cut in 1948. The song was penned by New Yorker Eden Ahbez, who was born in 1908. A publishing company later argued that some lyrics were from a Yiddish song they owned the copyright to. The 2 parties settled out of court. Ahbez passed away after a car accident in LA in 1995. "Nature Boy" remains his most famous song.
Following Cole's recording, the classic has also been covered by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, George Benson and Natalie Cole (Nat's daughter). In 1990, Australian vocalist Kate Ceberano cut the song for a film entitled 'The Crossing'.
Her jazz and pop experience come to effective use in her interpretation. Ross Hannaford, of (pioneering Australian rock band) Daddy Cool fame, performed guitar on the track. Martin Armiger produced Ceberano's remake. He had been a guitarist in Australian rock group The Sports. This marked the 1st of 2 Ceberano collaborations with a former member of that band; she would release "Calling You" with Andrew Pendlebury in 1992.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
To mark the occasion of reaching the halfway mark for this special countdown, a new song will be added on the hour all day today (in place of this week's Mid Week Bonus).
