CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#600 HURRICANE Bob Dylan
"Hurricane" is Dylan at his best: musically and lyrically. The song highlights his skills as a storyteller and protest singer. Its subject matter is the true story of Ruben Carter who Dylan had visited in jail in 1975. The middleweight boxer was arrested in 1966 and wrongly convicted for triple homicide.
Convinced of Carter's innocence, Dylan came up with the song, co-written with Jacques Levy. The 2 began collaborating on material in 1975 and they wrote the bulk of Dylan's 'Desire'. That LP, which contained "Hurricane", was produced by Don DeVito. Issued in 1976, it - and the single- helped publicize the injustice inflicted upon Carter. The single peaked at #33 in the US and 43 in Britain. In Australia, it reached #7.
Sadly, Carter remained incarcerated despite 2 appeals. The evidence was highly questionable,  but he had to wait until 1985 to finally be released from prison. In 1999, a motion picture, entitled 'Hurricane', based on his life was made. Carter was portrayed by Denzel Washington. Today, he works as a motivational speaker and activist for wrongly convicted prisoners in Toronto, Canada.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
To mark the occasion of reaching the halfway mark for this special countdown, a new song will be added on the hour all day today (in place of the Mid week Bonus).
