#619 I WANT YOU Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye took soul music down new directions in the 1970s. His 'I Want You' finds the Motown superstar at his most romantic. The title track was written by Leon Ware and T-Boy Ross (Diana Ross' brother). The former produced the recording in Hollywood. Released in 1976, the single peaked at #15 Pop and #1 R&B in the US. It is yet another example of how cool the influential singer could be on record.

#618 HERE'S MY HEART Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar recording a ballad like "Here's My Heart" was rare enough, but even more unlikely was her working with members of Donna Summer's 1970s team. Giorgio Moroder was working on the soundtrack for 'Metropolis', a Fritz Lang film from 1927. The classic was restored with a modern collection of songs. Its soundtrack featured tracks by acts that also included Freddie Mercury, Bonnie Tyler, Loverboy, Adam Ant, Billy Squier and Jon Anderson. Giorgio Moroder created the music for all of the album's songs. Pete Bellotte penned the lyrics for "Here's My Heart". Another Summer collaborator, Keith Forsey, plays on the soundtrack. Benatar's recording was produced by Moroder with Neil Geraldo and Peter Coleman. The album was issued in 1984.

"The Shadow Of Your Smile" is the Oscar winning song from the 1965 film 'The Sandpiper'. It was written by Johnny Mandell and Paul Francis Webster. After Tony Bennett scored a hit with his interpretation, numerous others covered the song. Barbra Streisand's version was recorded for her 'My Name Is Barbra, Two'. Released in the same year as the film, the LP peaked at #2 in America and #6 in Britain. Her version features an orchestra conducted and arranged by the legendary Don Costa.
