THE DUDE: QUINCY JONES

 [1981]
Quincy Jones would be elevated to legendary status as a producer following his work on Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. 'The Dude' was a project that was released years before that best seller. Jones gathers some of the best from the jazz, soul and R&B worlds to contribute to a thoroughly listenable album. There's Jackson, Patti Austin, James Ingram, Dune, Stevie Wonder and Toots Thielemans. It's Q's most radio-friendly album and spawned 3 chart hits. The album was a deserved big winner at the 1982 Grammy Awards. The considerable input from songwriter Rod Temperton adds much to this album's delights. He had already provided Jackson with the hits "Off The Wall" and "Rock With You". Temperton would go on to write "Thriller" and hits for Donna Summer, James Ingram, Michael McDonald and George Benson. Highlight tracks: Ai No Corrida; Razzamatazz & One Hundred Ways.
