-Diamond records are awarded for singles & albums selling 10 million units.
-Santana scores its brest selling album: 'Supernatural' with the hit single "Smooth" (featuring Rob Thomas).
-Woodstock '99 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the legendary concert.
-Mariah Carey breaks the record for most weeks at US#1 with "Heartbreaker".
-Gary Glitter is jailed for downloading child pornography.
-George Harrison is stabbed by an intruder in his home.
-Barbra Streisand rings in the year 2000 at her MGM Grand concert in Las Vegas.
Shania Twain led the country/pop crossover revival while Latin acts began dominating the charts. Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin all scored big hits during 1999. Lou Bega resuscitated the sounds of mambo. Dance music expanded its parameters with Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers and Moby.
