STONEY END: BARBRA STREISAND
[1971]
As the 1960s ended, Barbra Streisand had demonstrated her considerable skills in delivering Broadway show tunes. She had collected an Academy Award for her acting in the film version of the musical "Funny Girl" in the process. 'Stoney End' saw the talented singer tackle contemporary and pop-leaning material. The title track was 1 of the 3 songs penned by Laura Nyro recorded by Streisand for this album. Other sources included Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Nilsson and Barbara Keith. The album was a success and revealed a new side of the vocalist. The production by Richard Perry augmented the results. Highlight tracks: Stoney End; I Don't Know Where I Stand & If You Could Read My Mind.
