THE
HISTORY OF THE
EUROVISION
SONG
CONTEST
Caffé Latté looks back on
the key moments of Europe’s annual competition.
1987
Brussels played host city for a record 22 nations in 1987 after securing its 1st victory with "J'aime La Vie", performed by the 13 year old Sandra Kim the previous year.
The 1987 contest gave Ireland its 3rd win. The triumphant song was "Hold Me Now", sung by Johnny Logan. He had penned "Terminal 3" which finished in 2nd place in 1984. The song was performed by Linda Martin. Logan himself had already won Eurovision back in 1980 with "What's Another Year". His 2nd victory makes Logan the only performer to win Eurovision more than once. It is also worth noting that he wrote the ballad.
