After 3 consecutive years in Ireland, Eurovision finally moved to a new setting: the Norwegian capital Oslo for the 1996 contest. The 29 entries were selected by national juries based on an audio recording. As a result, 7 countries were culled that year, As host, Norway was guaranteed a place in the Grand Final with the 22 qualifying nations.
Amazingly, the final scores gave another win to Ireland! This was its record-breaking 7th victory at Eurovision. The record still stands today. Eimear Quinn's winning entry was "The Voice".
