Chuvk Berry kickstarted his recording career with "Maybellene". The demo impressed the Chess brothers. It was originally entitled "Ida Mae" and was adapted from a country song known as "Ida Red". Berry decided to change the title. The disc topped the Billboard R&B Chart and was his first hit on the Chess label.
