A-HA
Many are only familiar with A-Ha because of the group's enduring 80s synthpop 80s hit "Take On Me". Delve beyond that smash and you will discover many other delights featuring unique instrumentation and soaring harmonies.
In much the same way as ABBA put Swedish music on the map, A-Ha has been Norway's most successful musical export. The trio, formed in Oslo in 1982, consists of Morten Harket, Pal Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen.
Relocating to London, A-Ha was eventually signed to WEA Records. "Take On Me" was selected as the debut single. The first 2 attempts to launch the disc failed. It was re-issued a 3rd time in 1985, this time accompanied by an unforgettable music video. The single finally shot up the charts, peaking at #2 in Britain and then to #1 in America, Europe and Australia.
Follow-up "The Sun Always Shines On TV" topped the UK Chart. Other singles included "Hunting High And Low", "Cry Wolf" and "Summer Moved On".
In 1987, A-Ha performed the title song for the James Bond film 'The Living Daylights'. There was a 7-year gap between 1993's 'Memorial Beach' and 'Minor Earth Major Sky'.
A-Ha announced its retirement in 2009. The trio re-united for the 'Cast In Steel' album in 2015. A world tour followed. The same line-up remains intact to this day.
