Motown staffers Norman Whitfield and William "Mickey" Stevenson wrote the powerful soul song "It Should Have Been Me". It was recorded by 3 of the label's acts. The 1st version was by Kim Weston. In 1968, Gladys Knight & The Pips released a remake. Yvonne Fair issued her cover in 1976.
The song involves a woman who attends a wedding, looking on as her ex exchanges vows with the woman who has replaced her.
