GLAM ROCK
Glam rock was essentially a British musical trend that exploded in the early 1970s. It brought together bubblegum pop, sexuality, androgyny, camp theatricality and rock 'n roll. Fashion, image and the music were all equally fundamental to the glam rock scene. It later branched out into glitter rock.
Glam never had as profound an impact in the USA during the Seventies, but it did help influence the hair metal groups of the 1980s. Many of glam's iconic artists are now recognized as inspirations for subsequent acts. The handful exceptions include The New York Dolls and Alice Cooper.
Among the genre's leading acts are Roxy Music, David Bowie, T. Rex (Marc Bolan in particular), Gary Glitter,  Wizzard, Mud, The Sweet and Slade.
ABBA's music had elements of glam, especially breakthrough hit "Waterloo". This was also the case with Queen. Mott The Hoople scored a hit with the Bowie penned and produced  "All The Young Dudes". Suzi Quatro successfully mixed rock with glam.
