A RANKING OF THE 41 SONGS FROM EUROVISION 2019.

This post: #4. Concludes tomorrow.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2019
THE 41 SONGS
(ranked in order of preference)

The Eurovision Song Contest begins in Tel Aviv on May 14. Two semi-finals will see 35 songs reduced to 20 and join last year’s winning nation Israel alongside the pre-qualified ‘Big 5’ countries (France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom & Germany) in the Grand Final 4 days later.
The songs are ranked in order of song quality, starting with the weakest of the 41 entries. Preferences may change once they are performed live during the Semi-Finals.

WAKE UP
ELIOT
Recent offerings from Belgium have been among the best for some years now. “Wake Up” maintains that high standard. The Belgian entry will be performed in English during Semi-Final 1. Eliot will be singing the song, co-written by him and Pierre Dumoulin. The latter helped write “City Lights”, the 2017 Belgian entry which finished in fourth place. Discerning voters will hopefully recognize the quality of the 2019 song. Eliot will need to deliver a memorable live performance to stand out. The song deserves to finish high in the Grand Final.

THE HISTORY & STATISTICS
 Dublin 1995
Only a handful of countries have managed to accomplish back-to-back wins at Eurovision. The first to do so was Spain in 1968 and 1969 (albeit as part of the 4-way tie). Luxembourg repeated that achievement, but did so winning outright in 1972 and 1973. Next was Israel, with victories in 1978 and 1979.

Linda Martin - Why Me.jpgPaul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan - Rock 'n' Roll Kids.jpgThus far, only one country has succeeded in winning in 3 consecutive years: Ireland, in 1992, 1993 and 1994. That amazing streak was interrupted by Norway’s “Nocturne” in 1995. The following year, Ireland triumphed again, scoring its fourth win in 5 years!

TAMARA TODEVSKA
“Proud” will be performed in English during Semi-Final 2. This will be the country’s first appearance with its new name after previously participating as F.Y.R.  (Former Yugoslav Republic) Macedonia.  The ballad has strong lyrics that should resonate with the audience, particularly among women. It has an advantage in that it will be heard shortly before voting begins. All will depend on Tamara Todevska’s vocal skill to connect with viewers in order to stand out in a tough field. The song may not succeed in qualifying, but certainly deserves to.

SHE GOT ME
LUCA HANNI
The Swiss entry will be performed in English during Semi-Final 2. This is shaping up as one of the strong contenders and momentum should build once Luca Hänni unleashes his charisma on the Eurovision stage. This upbeat party song deserves to make it into the Grand Final and could be the “Fuego” of 2019 or the ultimate victor.
