#1108 LETTING GO Paul McCartney
When Paul McCartney unveiled his 1975 release, 'Venus and Mars', he not only further established himself as the most successful of the former members of The Beatles, this album also took his new group- Wings- to new heights. The album was more consistent and improved on the prior 'Band on the Run' set of songs. McCartney wrote "Letting Go" himself, as he did on the majority of the album's tracks. Along with its bluesy feel and impassioned lyrics, the horns provide an element of soul to the overall feel.

#1110 GIVE ME LOVE (GIVE ME PEACE ON EARTH) George Harrison
By the time of this release, the former Beatle George Harrison had launched a solo career that  proved to be fruitful. Coming off a worldwide chart- topper with "My Sweet Lord", he released a new set of songs on his 1973 album, 'Living in the Material World'. Composed by Harrison, "Give Me Love (Give me Peace on Earth)" was in a similar vein to his previous #1. Harrison pleads to the Lord for a better world and personal sense of contentment, a nod to the influence of Indian spirituality. His vocals, while not beautiful on this, only add to the sincerity and humility.

But, Starr launched his post- Beatles solo career with some chart hits. The biggest was "Photograph", a global hit he co-wrote with Harrison for his 1973 album simply entitled 'Ringo'. #1135 LITTLE BITTY PRETTY ONE Jackson 5
"Little Bitty Pretty One" was written by Robert Byrd, who released the original version of the song in 1957 under the name of Bobby Day. In the following year, it was covered by R&B vocal group Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers. This act was the prototype for the Jackson 5, so it was perhaps not surprising that the siblings also cut a version of the song.
The Jacksons' version was issued as a single in 1972 and included on their 'Lookin' Through the Windows' album on Motown. Michael's vocals stand out, but some of his brothers also share lead vocal duties on this track. Interestingly, another Day hit song, "Rockin' Robin", was released by Michael Jackson as a single in 1972.

#1136 YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVIN' FEELIN' Righteous Brothers
Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil co-wrote this radio staple with infamous producer Phil Spector. His "Wall of Sound" was added to what became the epic production. The finished product was too long for radio, but Spector refused to edit the track. He reversed the time length shown on the single- from 3:50 to 3:05. By the time DJs had noticed, it was too late: the song was on its way to becoming one of the most enduring radio tracks.
Bill Medley nails the deep vocals perfectly, with Bobby Hatfield's falsetto in places. But it is the former and Spector's masterful production work that gives this song its timeless quality. A genuine benchmark for music in the 1960s, it reached #1 in the US in 1965 and became Spector's first UK single to reach the top in Britain.

Stevie Wonder broke through with a respectable string of hits for Motown in the 1960s. As that decade came to an end, the gifted musician / songwriter was approaching his 20th birthday. His label was encouraging him to follow the same hit formula that had fared well for the company thus far, but Wonder was itching to tackle more serious subject matters. This poppy love song sneaks in some political commentary, particularly the line: "Men are men, not machines". Wonder wrote this song with Motown producer Sylvia Moy and member of the Funk Brothers, Henry Cosby. It was issued as a single in 1970.
