90 BACK TO BLACK
AMY WINEHOUSE [2006]

The world fell in love with the retro blue-eyed soul of Amy Winehouse. It was reassuring to see a vocalist celebrated enthusiastically. The tragedy that befell the artiste added even more poignancy.

Pink became the Pat Benatar of the new millenium with punchy, take-no-prisoners pop/ rock songs such as "U + Ur Hand".

On "& Days", the 2-Step ambassador goes soul and creates a fresh approach. This track recounts a week following a chance meeting with a woman.
86 SINGLE LADIES (PUT A RING ON IT)
BEYONCE` [2008]
The silhouette of a woman. She is standing in front of a grayscale background and the words "Beyoncé" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", which are written in silver capital letters.
Beyonce' dropped 1 of the defining songs of the century's 1st decade with "Single Ladies". The accompanying video ensured its dance moves would be emulated long after the single's chart run expired.
85 I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE
THE DARKNESS [2002]
No group combined hard rock & glam metal the way The Darkness did this century. The result was a bouncy and joyous track that was easily accessible to a range of audiences. It also carried the torch on from groups such as T Rex and Slade.
84 FALLIN'
ALICIA KEYS [2001]

Soul fans were searching for an exciting new singer/ songwriter that could be easily consumed. Alicia Ketys arrived at the right time. "Fallin'"proved the perfect introduction, showcasing her vocal gift and songwriting talent. She is as enthralling to tis day.

EUROVISION 2016: A PREVIEW.

Eurovision Song Contest 2016 logo.svg
THE HOST CITY?
Sweden will be hosting the ESC next year. The host city is to be announced.
PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES?
Some countries have already confirmed they will be participating. The Ukraine and Turkey have announced they will be returning to the annual competition. The UK is considering opting out of the contest or at least competing in a semi-final.I think both scenarios are most unlikely.
AUSTRALIA?
The big question is whether Australia will be invited back? Sweden awarded its "douze points" to the debutante nation. Australia happened to do the same to Sweden.
This nation's love affair with Sweden can be traced back to 1973, a year before ABBA won Eurovision. The group had already charted that year with "Ring Ring" here (a song that was not selected to represent Sweden that year).
In 1975, when ABBA finally exploded around the world, Australia was the first country outside Scandinavia to fall under its spell. Roxette, Ace of Base and others have also scored hits here.
Australia finished 5th which is a respectable debut.
WILL THERE BE A NEW COUNTRY INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AS A GUEST?
Australia was invited for the 2015 contest and this may become permanent (hopefully!). If a new country is invited as a guest, it is most likely to be China. A clue was dropped during the Grand Final.

CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#9 ELTON'S SONG
ELTON JOHN
(1981)
Writers: Elton John & Tom Robinson
Elton John's 1981 album release 'The Fox' found the pianist collaborating with other writers as well as including some songs he co-wrote with regular songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Some tracks were penned with Gary Osborne, while some were instrumentals composed by John himself. "Elton's Song" is a ballad that is obscure to many John fans. The beautiful and moving track was written by John with Tom Robinson.
"Elton's Song" deals with unrequited love. A schoolboy has developed a crush on another student. He craves his love, but dares not reveal his true feelings. Its homosexual subject matter led to the track being banned in some countries. At the time, Robinson -the lyricist - was openly gay. He had charted in 1978 with the punk single "2-4-6-8 Motorway" and also recorded the song "Glad To Be Gay". His chart success proved to be shortlived. Despite being such a vocal gay performer in the 1970s, he is reportedly married to a woman and raising a family these days. John, on the other hand, is married to David Furnish.
A video for "Elton's Song", directed by Russell Mulcahy, elaborated on the track's gay theme. The ballad features John on piano and James Newton Howard on synthesizer. It was recorded at Superbear Studios in France, where Clive Franks co-produced the track with John.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
Each week, 1 new songs from the remaining Top 10 will be added, while another 2 are also included from #1501-2000 on the other weekdays. Check back here for an update of the 2000.
