These songs are well known but you may not know about the
earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
After Midnight
After being a member of various groups, including Cream and Blind Faith, Eric Clapton finally released a solo studio album. The self-titled LP featured the single "After Midnight". In 1970, the disc made the US Top 20.
The original version of the song was recorded by its composer: J. J. Cale. Issued in 1966, the American guitarist / singer-songwriter's interpretation failed to chart. In 1977, Clapton would cover another Cale song: "Cocaine".
