LA LA LA
Massiel
SPAIN – 1968
Anyone wishing to diss Eurovision need only refer to the title
of the 1968 winning entry to make their point. The title is repeated over and
over again for its chorus. Initially, the entry was to be performed in Catalan by Joan Manuel Serrat, but Spanish officials replaced him with Massiel who sang the identical song in Spanish. The United Kingdom’s
“Congratulations” was considered the favourite. Cliff Richard ultimately had to settle for
second place despite having the superior song. No country received more than 6
points. In Spain’s case this was received from the German jury. The 1968
Contest was the first to be broadcast in colour.
