EUROVISION 2021: THE 39 SONGS (RANKED IN ORDER OF QUALITY).
Today: #10- 4. Concludes: tomorrow.
EUROVISION 2021
THE 39 SONGS
(in order of preference)
The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has decreased to 39 with the withdrawal of Armenia and Belarus being disqualified. After being cancelled last year, the 2021 ESC will go ahead in Rotterdam in May. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song.
*Note that a live performance and the on-stage presentation may alter the overall impact of a song.

#10
EL DIABLO
Elena Tsagrinou
Cyprus
Cyprus’ 37th ESC entry will be hoping to secure the country’s first win with the infectious “El Diablo”. It sounds very Lady Gaga and has sparked some controversy over lyrics which proclaim “I gave my heart to” the Devil! The entry will be performed in English during Semi-Final 1. It’s a tough field, but Cyprus deserves to qualify for a spot in the Grand Final. Even with Satan’s help, it is unlikely to win but is tipped to finish in the Top 10.
#9
FALLEN ANGEL
TIX
Norway
Eurovision has produced 3 Norwegian victories, the most recent being “Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak in 2009. This year, Norway’s entry will be competing in Semi-Final 1. It will be performed in English by Andreas Haukeland who works under the name TIX. This is a reference to his Tourette’s syndrome. The song is a little different for Norway and may not stand out, but it is worthy of a place in the Grand Final. A win, on the other hand, is highly improbable.
#8
ADRENALINA
Senhit
San Marino
San Marino has struggled at Eurovision, only reaching the Grand Final twice out of its previous 10 participations. “Adrenalina” is a stronger entry than the song Senhit was due to perform in 2020 before COVID led to the cancellation of the ESC. Her 2021 song will be performed in English. It should easily progress from Semi Final 2 to the Grand Final. It won’t win, but deserves to finish in the Top 10. Flo Rida’s contribution will help get it noticed.
#7
TOUT L’UNIVERS
Gjon’s Tears
Switzerland
There is no doubt Gyon Muharremaj possesses a beautiful voice. He established that with his 2020 entry “Rèpondez Moi”. This year, he is back with “Tout L’Univers”. It sounds similar to his previous entry and the last ESC winning song- “Arcade”- which may hinder its chances of securing a new triumph for Switzerland. The country won the inaugural Contest in 1956. A second win was achieved in 1988. Gyon’s Tears is performing the 62nd Swiss entry at Eurovision. The entry will be performed in French during Semi-Final 2. It is likely to attract the highest score there and should cruise straight through to the Grand Final. The song is a firm favourite to win, although Caffè Lattè is ruling that out at this stage.
#6
VOILÀ
Barbara Pravi
France
As one of Eurovision’s ‘Big 5’ countries, France has pre-qualified for the Grand Final. It is also one of the founding countries of the ESC. France has won Eurovision 5 times, but the last victory was in 1977. At present, “Voilà” is a strong contender and might just finish up as the winning song. It is classy. Barbara Pravi is a competent singer and songwriter. She will be performing the song in French. It is one of the major favourites this year and will finish high. A victory is also a strong possibility.
#5
EMBERS
James Newman
United Kingdom
As another of Eurovision’s ‘Big 5’ countries, the UK is already slated for a spot in the Grand Final. The last British win was back in 1997. This was the country’s 5th triumph. The UK has also finished in the runner-up position a record 15 times! In recent years, British entries have struggled to attract much love. James Newman was scheduled to perform “My Last Breath” in 2020. He finally will get his chance on the Eurovision stage this year with “Embers”. His 2021 entry is far superior. It is one of the best songs served up by the UK in recent decades. It deserves a Top 10 finish but will need to work hard in order to secure votes on the big night.
#4
THE WRONG PLACE
Hooverphonic
Belgium
In recent years, Belgium has offered up well-crafted songs in the ESC. Hooverphonic was ready to serve up the heavenly “Release Me” last year, but the pandemic put an end to the 2020 Contest. The group is back this year with a new song. “The Wrong Place” is another aural delight that deserves a Top 10 finish. This, however, is unlikely to happen. Belgium is going to face difficulty qualifying in Semi Final 1. It will be dealing with a strong field which will hinder its chances. Belgium is one of the founding nations at Eurovision, but it has only experienced victory once- in 1986. “The Wrong Place” will be the 63rd Belgian entry on the ESC stage.
