Since the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest, 51 countries have competed in the annual event. This look back features each country in order of appearance and highlights that nation’s best entry so far.

1964

No new countries joined the Eurovision family in the years 1962-3, but Portugal made its debut in 1964. So began one of the longest waits for a victory at the ESC. Copenhagen was the host city that year, the location of Italy’s first win.
