Since the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest, 51 countries have competed in the annual event. This look back features each country in order of appearance and highlights that nation’s best entry so far.

The Eurovision Song Contest went further north than ever before with Bergen as the host city. In Norway, Iceland made its debut on the ESC stage.
Controversially, winner Sandra Kim claimed she was 15 when she was in fact only 13 years of age. The rules now stipulate that all performers must be 16 or older.
