Since the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest, 51 countries have competed in the annual event. This look back features each country in order of appearance and highlights that nation’s best entry so far.

London became the first capital city to host Eurovision after the Dutch declined to hold the Contest there. Norway’s debut increased the number of participants to a (then) record 13.
