#36
YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND
“…Close your eyes
& think of me,
& soon I will be there,
to brighten up
even your darkest night...
Numerous performers have covered "You've Got A Friend" over many decades. This is a testament of the lyrics' timeless resonance. The song was written by Carole King and first heard on her 1971 classic album 'Tapestry'.
James Taylor recorded a remake that year and scored an American #1 single as well as peaking at #4 in the UK. It won Taylor the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. King herself collected the Song of the Year Grammy Award for composing the hit.
King's lyrics deal with the loyalty and support of a good friend. The verses reassure the other person that no matter what adversity emerges, she will be there for her friend. In the many years since the original was first heard, that need for a reliable friend has never diminshed.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
