BEFORE THE HIT VERSION
SOMEDAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER. Check back here for the next update.
BEFORE IT WAS A
HIT SONG…
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Diana Ross' final number one single as lead singer of The Supremes was "Someday We'll Be Together". She was, in fact, the only member of the trio present at its recording. The single reached #1 in 1969, marking the end of an era for the Motown group. Ross used its success to launch her solo career. The hit marked a fitting swansong for the girl group, but this was not the original version of the song.
Harvey Fuqua co-wrote the hit with Johnny Bristol and Jackie Beavers. The latter two recorded as a duo. They issued the original version of the song. Although it picked up some sales, the disc failed to crack the US Hot 100.
Bristol's voice can be heard on The Supremes' remake. Ross is backed up by The Andantes, instead of the other group members Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong.
