UP THE JUNCTION
“…Alone here in the kitchen,
I feel there’s
something missing.
I’d beg for some forgiveness,
but begging’s not my
business.
And she won’t write a letter,
although I always tell her.
And so it’s
my assumption,
I’m really up the junction...”
Squeeze finally enjoyed success in 1979 with the single "Cool For Cats". Its follow-up was "Up The Junction". Both tracks were lifted off the 'Cool For Cats' album which was also issued that same year. In Britain, both singles peaked at #2.
Written by group members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, "Up The Junction" tells the story of a relationship. A couple enjoy sex and soon spend all their time together. They get engaged. The female announces she is pregnant. A daughter is born, but the relationship soon sours.
By the end of the song, the baby is now 2 years old. The woman is living with a new man. Our narrator is left alone and sad.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be
added to a spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
