BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG…
These songs are well known
but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
I Can Hear Music
The Beach Boys enjoyed worldwide success with the single "I Can Hear Music". Released in 1969, the disc made the UK Top 10 and reached #24 in America. The track was lifted off the group's '20/20' album which was issued in the same year.
Barry Mann co-wrote "I Can Hear Music" with his partner Ellie Greenwich and producer Phil Spector. The latter gave the song to The Ronettes to record. His future wife Ronnie Bennett was the girl group's lead vocalist. Spector heightened the original's impact with his legendary Wall Of Sound. The Ronettes' version only reached #100 in the USA.
