but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
Hooked On A Feeling
Before ABBA put Sweden on the musical map, another Swedish group scored an international hit with "Hooked On A Feeling". The aptly titled Blue Swede's recording features the unforgettable "ooga chaka" refrain. This version topped the American chart and reached the Top 10 in Canada, Australia and New Zealand in 1974. The single had been issued a year earlier in Sweden.
B.J. Thomas recorded the original version of "Hooked On A Feeling". His single was released in late 1968 and peaked at #5 in America and #3 in Canada. It was included on Thomas' 1968 album 'On My Way'.
