FUCK THA POLICE
“…A young nigga got it bad,
’cause I’m
brown
& not the other color,
so the police think
they have the authority
to
kill a minority...”
Few protest songs are as raw and filled with brutal realism as N.W.A.'s hip-hop classic "Fuck Tha Police". The track served as the lead single from the rap group's 1988 debut album 'Straight Outta Compton'.
The song's title immediately provoked controversy. Written by N.W.A. members Ice Cube and MC Ren, the track deals with the discriminatory and cruel behaviour of the police towards African-Americans. It is structured as a testimony from various members of the group.
While many were repelled by the track's endorsement of violence towards law-enforcers, sadly too many could relate to the experiences included in its verses. Either way, there is no denying that "Fuck Tha Police" is a seminal watershed in hip-hop.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be
added to a spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
