CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#142 UPSIDE DOWN Diana Ross
After scaling charts around the globe as members of the funk/ disco group Chic, songwriters/ producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were asked to work with their 1st megastar: Diana Ross. The 2 men sat down with Ross to gather ideas for songs that included her next hit, "Upside Down".
At the time the former lead singer of The Supremes was contemplating major changes in her life and career. As Rodgers explained to me in an interview in 2012: "she kept telling us that she was not happy at Motown, not happy with her life, she was going to move to the East coast because at that time she was living in California... She said she was going to turn her entire world upside down. We said okay, that sounds like a good title! We turned the little interview into a song". Edwards and Rodgers created  "Upside Down" and Ross recorded it.
The song became the 1st single lifted off her 1980 album 'Diana'. "Upside Down" became a #1 hit on 3 US charts: Pop, R&B and Disco. It also became a chart topping single in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and South Africa. The disc peaked at #2 in Britain.
Ross continued scoring hits for Motown over the ensuing months, including "I'm Coming Out" and her international #1 duet "Endless Love (with Lionel Richie). The following year, she had severed ties with the label and signed with RCA/ Capitol Records; just as she had indicated in her interviews with Rodgers and Edwards.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
