WET: BARBRA STREISAND

 [1979]
'Wet" is a concept album from Babra Streisand. Each track deals with water in ways ranging from condensation to teardrops. Streisand co-wrote the title track which opens the album. Next is her deftly executed rendition of the Johnny Mercer & Harold Arlen standard "Come Rain Or Come Shine". Streisand's cover of the Bobby Darin hit "Splish Splash" is the only weak link on the album and unworthy of a singer of her calibre. The track listing is redeemed by ballads "On Rainy Afternoons" and "After The Rain". Both are examples of the adult contemporary style Streisand excels at. The pace builds on her duet with disco star Donna Summer: "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)". This US #1 is a tour de force by 2 of the most successful female singers of the time and the album's main drawcard. The album version runs for over 8 minutes. "Niagara" refers to the spectacular waterfall and its memory has the song's protagonist recalling better times in her relationship. Streisand next belts out another disco song, "I Ain't Gonna Cry Tonight". This is an upbeat and fun track. The album closes with the tender love song "Kiss Me In The Rain". Many tracks have members of the group Toto performing as session musicians, as well as David Foster. It features Streisand at her best and demonstrating her versatility.
Highlight tracks: No More Tears (Enough Is Enough); Kiss Me In The Rain; After The Rain & Niagara.
