These songs are well known but you may not know about the
earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
Popcorn
"Popcorn" was an instrumental smash for Hot Butter that made the charts in 1972. The single reached #1 in parts of Europe and Australia as well as making the Top 10 in America and the UK. Hot Butter was essentially American musician Stan Free.
The original version of "Popcorn" was issued in 1969. It was recorded by its composer, Gershon Kingsley and included on his 'Music To Moog By' album. Born in Germany, Kingsley eventually migrated to America.
