These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

The Shoop Shoop Song

(It’s In His Kiss)

Cher made the charts with "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" in 1990. The song was featured in her film 'Mermaids' and was also included on her 'Love Hurts' album. In Britain and Europe, her remake reached #1.

Linda Lewis had previously released a disco cover version in 1975. Her interpretation made the Top 10 in the United Kingdom, climbing to #6. It was included on her 'Not A Little Girl Anymore' album.

The original version of the song was released by Merry Clayton in 1963. This rendition flopped. Clayton is best remembered for her stunning background vocals on The Rolling Stones track "Gimme Shelter".

The following year, Betty Everett issued her remake of the same song. This time, the disc made the charts, peaking at #6 and #31 in Britain and the U.S.A. respectively.
