 GREATEST DRUMMERS

It’s hard to imagine any song with a driving beat without a drum kit powering the overall sound. This list pays tribute to the drummers whose work has had the greatest impact and influence on rock and pop music.

RINGO STARR

Ringo Starr has unfairly been underrated as a drummer. True, his talent was overshadowed by the other three members of The Beatles, but how many musicians could realistically outshine George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney? Nevertheless, Starr has a unique and skilled drumming style that did add to the brilliance of the Fab Four’s canon. This is most notable on tracks such as “Rain” and “Come Together”. He also wrote songs and sang lead on the group’s albums. What makes his skill even more remarkable is that Starr is left-handed yet has played on drum kits for right-handed musicians. Like all of the other former Beatles, he enjoyed solo success with hits such as “Photograph” and “It Don’t Come Easy”. He continues touring with his All Starr Band.
