The Twist dance craze was still thriving when Joey Dee co-wrote "The Peppermint Twist". His group Joey Dee & The Starliters recorded the hit record. Its title refers to the hip club at the time named The Peppermint Lounge. Located on West 45th Street in New York City, the group was the house band there.
